The infected water that is generated during schrubbing process of incineration, autoclaving process, floor wash and vehicle sterilization process are collected at the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) for disinfection and treatment.
The water is treated using various tube settlers and filters and then reused for gardening purpose. The sludge collected is taken to the secured landfill area for disposal. This ensures that pollution from any of the above treatment process does not get into the surroundings.
All the effluents from the scrubber at Incinerator, floor washings, the waters from vehicular washings and cleaning of the containers are connected to a single tank by means of two lines. Once the effluents are collected in the tank, its pH is maintained at 8-8.5 by addition of Sodium Hydroxide, (NaOH) accordingly and then the effluent is passed through the oil content if any is trapped in compartments.
The oil content if any is trapped in these chambers and the effluent free from oil traces enters into the collection cum homogenization tanks. Here the effluent is continuously kept under turbulence by means of a pump to keep the liquids in homogenized form.Required quantities of effluent are pumped into the mixing channel of the clarifier which has got many baffles for efficient mixing of the effluent with the flocculent. In this mixing channel calculated quantities of alum is dosed. After thorough mixing within the mixing channel, the liquid enters into the clarifier. Here flocculation takes place. All the suspended particles settle at the bottom in the form of sludge which is pumped onto the sludge drying beds periodically by means of a sludge pump.
The supernatant liquid overflows and enters to the treated water sump which is equipped with an aeration jet. An ejector which sucks oxygen from the external atmosphere, pumps it into the liquid collection in the tanks thus providing required oxygen to bring down the BOD and COD levels. The pH also is monitored in each tank. By the time it reaches final tanks the pH level is maintained between 7-7.5.
This water is pumped into the multimedia filter by means of a pump for further clarification and color removal if any. Thus the outlet from the filter is free from all suspended particles, color and odor. This treated water is used for green belt development. The drain water from the filter as well as sludge drying beds is again taken into collection. This ensures a very effective treatment of the effluents.
